Christmas Activity Garland

This is the first year that Sweetpea will be old enough to begin to understand Christmas, and I'm so excited to start creating family memories that I hope will be come time honored traditions. I love Amy's Christmas Jar, and her list of activities is a great resource if you're looking for ideas. Many of our activities work best on specific dates, so I wanted something more structured. One of the activities I had planned was to make a Christmas countdown garland - why not roll the two ideas into one, and make a Christmas activities garland?

I am so excited to see how this works, I think we're going to have a lot of fun with it. We will take all of our Christmas activities from the list above and write them on red and green bands of paper. The bands will be ordered so the specific activities that need scheduled are in the correct place, and the rest are sprinkled in randomly to fill out the 25 days leading up to Christmas. We will likely drape the garland along our mantle with the stockings. I'll post a picture in late November to show you how it turns out!

Amazing. Time to start thinking about Christmas already.

Great idea! It's so smart to think through the things you want to incorporate into the season--it flies so fast and then I often find there are some traditions I wanted to enjoy that got shoved to the side in all the busy-ness.

Blessings!

That sounds like a great idea! I can't wait to hear how it turns out!

The Christmas Jar is so much fun & we had fun this summer with our summertime list to. I just love to do things with the kids and make these times special with them.

I can't wait to hear how it all turns out!!

Great idea! I had so much fun with things like this when my kids were younger. We still do a lot of fun things - it's all changed as they've grown, but you can never outgrow the magic :-)

This is a great idea! I have a little advent calendar that is a magnetic tree with tiny little magnetic tins for every day. So tiny in fact that I struggle to come up with things to put inside them & when I do, it's usually junkie little trinkets. It would be so much better to put little slips of paper in there! Such a good idea!!

What a fun idea. I really need to brainstorn ideas that can be done on a moment's notice like read a Christmas story, sing 3 carols, phone a relative that lives far away, hug everyone, make a snow fort with the couch cushions . . .

This is such a great idea. I featured it in today's Simple Makes post, "Best Advent Links: Preparing for Christmas." See it at http://www.simplemakes.com/2008/12/best-advent-links-preparing-for.html. Thanks for the great post!
