Our Overnight Cloth Diaper Solution - Lollidoo!

We have been cloth diapering during the day for quite some time now, but night time had been a real challenge. Both of my girls are heavy wetters, and the last thing I wanted was added night waking and bleary eyed sheet changes. Until recently I had been using disposibles at night, and even then Sugar Plum would often wake up in the early morning and need changing.

I was excited to receive a Lollidoo overnight diaper to test out - I had heard great things about them. There is an amazing amount of adjustability designed into the diapers, and the absorbency can also be adjusted by adding additional inserts. The outer cover retains wetness but is also very breathable, helping to keep baby's bottom dry. {as a side note, if your baby is older like mine, this may also mean you will really smell baby's diaper in the morning, but I'll take that as a trade off for dry pajamas and sheets!}

Nakano Rice Vinegar {Giveaway}

One of my very first blogging buddies asked me a few weeks ago if I was interested in trying some Nakano Rice Vinegar. I love cooking with good vinegar, for the bold taste it imparts when I'm cooking light healthy meals, so I was excited to try it.

Nakano makes natural and seasoned rice vinegars, all of which are fat, gluten, and preservative free. Their rice vinegar is also low in calories and lower in sodium than other rice vinegars - by 50%! The available flavors are Original, Roasted Garlic, Basil & Oregano, Red Pepper,
Pesto, Balsamic Blend and Italian Herb.

I received a bottle of roasted garlic vinegar, and at first I was a little bit nervous about the garlic flavor - I could smell a hint of it even before I opened the seal - would it over power my food? Would my mother get within six feet of me after having cooked with it?

I put my fear aside and began looking through the recipe booklet that was included. While all the recipes looked tasty, the tropical chicken looked and sounded amazing, and I had all the ingredients in my kitchen. I made a few modifications to the original recipe, mainly because we were grilling the next day and with the oppressive heat of summer still clinging on (I know those of you who live where it really gets hot are laughing at me, go ahead, I know I'm a wimp!) I didn't feel like roasting chicken inside. I combined all the ingredients and let everything marinate overnight.

Not only was this dish easy, it was delicious! The flavor was rich, tangy and slightly sweet, definitely something I could imagine eating on vacation. I will definitely be making tropical chicken again and again. In case you would like to try it, here is the recipe:

Tropical Roast (or grilled) Chicken

1/4 cup Nakano Seasoned Rice Vinegar (Roasted Garlic flavor)
1/4 cup orange marmalade
1.5 Tbsp minced ginger (I keep my ginger frozen, and use a microplane as a quick and easy way to "mince" ginger!)
1 Tbsp minced garlic (since the microplane is out, may as well grate that garlic clove too!)
1 Tbsp dark toasted sesame oil
1/2 tsp each salt & paprika
4 chicken legs (or boneless skinless breasts)

If you're going to grill the chicken, I would suggest pouring everything together in a gallon sized storage bag and letting it sit in the refrigerator overnight. If you would prefer to roast the chicken, preheat your oven to 375. Brush both sides of your chicken liberally with the glaze and arrange on a roasting rack. Bake 20 minutes in the upper portion of your oven. Brush again with remaining glaze and continue baking 15 minutes or until chicken is cooked through.

Now that I had tried one recipe, I was intrigued. I went to the recipe section of the Mizkan website and looked around, and now I have several more recipes bookmarked to try. I can especially see myself using these vinegars in dressings and glazes with vegetables and salads.

Bravado Body Silk Seamless Nursing Bra

As a Bravado Mama Ambassador, I’ve recently had the chance to try out Bravado’s body silk seamless nursing bra. I was familiar with the essential tank, as I’m a bit of a nursing tank junkie, but I’d never tried the silk seamless bra. I have to say, I’m in love. As comfortable as the sleep bras I live in, this bra is much more supportive, even for larger sizes. (I’m a 36F) The clasp lays flat and is easy enough to unhook and reattach with one hand, especially important if you’re nursing in public. The bra is designed to stretch with you during pregnancy and the fluctuations experienced as milk comes in and then eventually regulates. How exciting to find a comfortable bra that will last through pregnancy and nursing! In order to comfortably nurse in public in my fancy new bra, I’ll be sporting a “regular” tank over it. Then I can just pull the tank down when I unfasten the bra, while still covering my midsection.

Baby Bliss

What happens when you go to a fabulous conference, get snowed out while you're away, stay with grandma (and 2 littles under 3) for 4 days (while waiting for sweet neighbors to clear your driveway) and then take a vacation to Disney World? Right, you start writing run on sentences! :) And get terribly behind on blogging due to lack of internet access...so now that things are nearly back to normal, I'd love to tell you all about our adventures!

I was a bit nervous about Blissdom - I had decided to go at the last minute, and after my only other conference experience I was worried I just wasn't conference material. I was bringing Sugar Plum with me, and I wasn't sure how that was going to go either. I'd heard Blissdom was very baby friendly, and that was absolutely the truth! Not only did Sugar Plum get all kinds of love from several sweet bloggers, but thanks to Christine at From Dates to Diapers and ForBabyGifts, there were even goody bags and strollers and carriers for us to try out!

I was able to use theKolcraft Contours Options 3 wheeler throughout the conference! I loved the smooth ride and maneuverability, but even more exciting was the fact that the seat can reverse, allowing baby to see mommy (or whomever is driving!) or see the world. This stroller also has a carseat attachment, which is something I didn't have at home. With Sugar Plum weighing in at an adorably plump 17lbs 11oz that comes in very handy! At the end of the conference there was a drawing for the strollers we'd been trying out, and I got to take mine home!!

Before I knew I wouldn't have to say goodbye to my wonderful stroller, I wanted to make sure I got a decent picture of it. I asked a nice looking lady with a big camera (my new friend Darcy, you should really go say hi and check out her amazing photography skillz) if she would mind taking a few shots for me, and she so sweetly said yes. The lighting was so so, and apparently she had a better lens that wasn't with her at the time, but even so I think these turned out fabulously, don't you?

Can you tell she likes it?! I adore the way Sugar Plum's eyes pop in this shot, and the stroller doesn't look half bad either!

Here you can see the spacious compartment under the stroller for carrying things - I have a mei tai, a diaper bag, a laptop, a notebook, a sweater, and a blanket. In this picture the toy bar is attached, which easily comes off.

And this picture shows those baby blue eyes again - oops, I mean the easy folding mechanism...just pull up on the red tabs (in the upper right corner) and the stroller folds right up. The wheels lock automatically when the stroller is folded to keep it from rolling away.

A little support for my tired abs, from Amon Maternity!

For those of you with kids out there, after your baby was born, did you rush to get back into your pre-baby shape? I knew I wanted to get there someday, but both times I acknowledged the huge miracle my body had performed. I knew that providing milk for my daughters was no small miracle as well, and I wanted to make sure I ate well to provide good nutrition for them throughout the time I was nursing.

I gained 40lbs with my first pregnancy, and while I hit the gym because it felt good, I didn't start thinking about getting "back in shape" for about 8 months. I only gained 27lbs this time (thanks to four months of "all day" sickness - ugh!) but my abs did not snap back the second time around! Even so, I'm going to cut myself plenty of slack, at least until swimsuit season. There is just too much to sit back and enjoy, and I don't want to miss any of it!

That said, hearing someone say, "honey, get out of the way of the pregnant lady" the other day was a low blow to my ego. Seriously? A quick look over my shoulder confirmed that she was, in fact, talking about me. And I thought all women knew better than to assume a stranger was pregnant! {{insert indignant sigh here}}

My little sprout

I wanted to share some adorable photos we had taken prior to our vacation!

This adorable and versatile outfit is handmade in the midwest and can be found at Neptune Sprouts! It is reversible (see contrasting fabric in photo above, of Sweetpea "twirling like a princess") and grows with your child, turning from a knee length dress into a tunic top.

This pose cracked me up - she could fold her hands or cross her legs, but not both at the same time...love that toothy little grin she's sporting!

Looking for a great makeup routine? A Bare Minerals review

My mom and I are big both fans of Bare Minerals. She was nice enough to write up this guest post explaining why she loves the products so much. Without further delay, please give a warm bloggy welcome to Problem Solvin Mom's Mom! :)

Infomercials…..I love to hate them. So how can my absolute favorite of all products be something that peddles itself at 4 am over and over ad naseaum?

I have to admit, I never would have tried it if my daughter hadn’t told me that her buddies at the Y in the morning were telling her how much they love….Bare Minerals.

My daughter and I made a trip to the closest Bare Escentuals store about a year ago to treat ourselves to a makeover; prepared to spend some bucks. And spend we did, but boy did we look good! I will say though, that now that I know what I need, the expense is not too bad and I will NEVER use any other makeup.

I would think the infomercial would scare some ladies off by saying the TV special that you get for $60 is worth $209. I would never spend $209 on makeup. Once you get that starter kit with the brushes, the things you will need to replace are Prime Time (the most amazing of all), the foundation, the Warmth (which lasts for a long time) and the mineral veil finishing powder. I also use I.D. Bare Vitamins before the Prime Time, but I think some people use regular moisturizer. I am worth every penny I spend on BareMinerals.

The reason I am so captured by this product is that my skin has improved so much since I started using it. I am 61 years old, had redness that would start to show immediately after starting my day…until Bare Minerals. It has actually improved my skin so much that it even looks better without makeup than it did before.

I asked for some of my Bare Minerals for Christmas this year; but I did run out of foundation prior to Christmas Day. I stopped in to get a name brand at the drug store; but there was no comparison and I was glad to stop using it!!

You can believe every word spoken in the BareMinerals infomercial. So, besides wanting to tell everyone how wonderful Bare Minerals is, I have to wonder what other infomercials are actually peddling some good products….anyone have a favorite that they were skeptical about at first?

Organizing Tip Thursday - keeping it together

I had the chance to try out several products as a part of my organizing series. Many of them were unique and helpful. A few had me saying, "where was this when Sweetpea was born?! The cellkeeper is one of those products. Not to say this product isn't for everyone, but oh I could have used this during those "if I only had 2 more hands" new mom moments!

What we're enjoying right now - Speakaboos!

I'm very excited to share with you about Speakaboos today! Speakaboos is an online library featuring videos of well known children's stories - each narrated and beautifully illustrated. The beta version of the site offers more than 35 titles, with some stories even narrated by Kelly Ripa, Nick Cannon and Kevin Bacon.

An additional 30 titles should be added by the end of the year, and coming in February, you will be able to record your own stories! What a fantastic concept - a traveling parent can record a story for their family to be read while they are out of town, distant relatives can read stories and share in the bedtime ritual, and I'm sure many children would love hearing their own voices recorded and played back. Once recorded, the stories can be downloaded onto a computer for easy use. Prerecorded stories can be played for free or downloaded for $0.99 per story. 15% of the revenue goes to support the National Education Association.

There are story guides, worksheets and crafts for parents and teachers to use with the stories. There are also games, contests and coloring pages. I downloaded a few of the story guides and found them to be a good resource - offering comprehension and discussion questions, research suggestions and information on the specific adaptation of the story.

Knock Knock...Housekeeping!

I'm happy to announce the debut of the Problem Solvin Mom Recommends review blog!

As I get the chance to review more products that I think would appeal to busy moms and their families, I'll be posting on this new site. Fabulous Stocking Stuffers

When I had the opportunity to try out Pacific Shaving Company's shaving oil, I was very interested but slightly skeptical. Shaving oil - really?

I first tested the oil while shaving my legs...it seemed like the safest experiment. The directions call for 6-8 drops of oil, but don't really say what area that amount of oil is good for. I used 8 drops per leg and was amazed at how well it worked! No nicks, no razor burn, and smooth skin after my shower! I usually slather lotion on my legs this time of year, but only needed a small amount of lotion to feel totally hydrated after shaving with this oil.

The next test was to convince EmDee to try it, slightly trickier, but I had a plan. I shave his head about once a week, so when the time came I pulled out the oil and suggested we give it a try. He was willing, and we were both very impressed - again, no nicks, no razor burn, but this time we noticed something even more exciting...The biggest nuisance when shaving his head is the hair gets stuck in the razor - I was spending as much time trying to rinse the razor as I was shaving. With the shaving oil, the hair rinsed right out of the razor - this aspect alone makes this oil highly superior in my mind!

The third and last test, the trifecta of shaving so to speak, was EmDee's face. He tends to bleed in at least one spot each shave, and so I was excited to have also received a nick stick, designed to stop bleeding and promote quicker healing. I had it laid out and ready, but since using the shaving oil EmDee hasn't nicked himself or bled once! He's been using the oil on his face now for two weeks, and it's safe to say we are never going back...if and when he does need the nick stick, I have faith that it will work as promised based on the quality of the shaving oil.

Not only is this product amazing to use, it's economical and "greener" than traditional shaving cream. A 1/2 ounce bottle like the one I have costs just under $7 and lasts up to 100 shaves - WOW! This product uses considerably less material to package than a shaving cream can - less waste going to the landfill. Speaking of the small size, it's 95% smaller than an average shaving cream can, so it's perfect for travel or taking to the gym. It's made in the USA and for each bottle of shaving oil, Pacific Shaving plants a tree.

Are you a planner? A list maker? I am definitely a list maker, especially when things get busy and hectic. Lists keep me focused and on track, they help reduce the likelihood that I'll wander off task and waste time on something that isn't a goal for the day.

Somewhere between all my lists and my goals, I need a plan. I tend to struggle organizing the plan, and I'm always on the lookout for a tool to help me turn my dreams into reality. One of my "dreams" for this holiday season is to be organized and relaxed, to help my daughter begin to understand the magic of the holiday, to start creating some fantastic holiday memories.

Motrin vs. Moms?

In honor of International Babywearing Week, Motrin apparently decided to take on babywearing in general and babywearing moms everywhere. If you'd like to see the ad, at the time of this post it was still on the front page of their website, here. I think this takes first honors in the "What were they thinking" category this week. In a true showing of the power of marketing to moms (or in this case, not so much) check out the sheer size of the group of mothers talking about Motrin right now by visiting this site.

If you are upset by this ad, what can you do? Join the discussions - there are plenty to be found - and email Motrin to let them know you are upset.

Here is the email I sent them this morning:

I am appalled by the babywearing ad on your front page - did you not talk to any mothers before publishing such an offensive ad? And during international babywearing week no less, was that on purpose? The benefits of babywearing are well documented, and most moms who wear their babies are fiercely loyal to the idea that it's beneficial. Not only that, but if done correctly it doesn't hurt, and is less tiring than holding a baby normally. There are so many legitimate reasons a mom has headaches, couldn't you have picked one of them?

As cold season approaches - A product I'm loving right now

Poor little Sweetpea has been struggling with a virus this week. She's feeling much better now, but Monday she had a 104 degree fever, was vomiting and had a very stuffy head. In order to help her rest more easily, I brought out the Triaminic Flowing Vapors Fan.

This little battery operated fan blows menthol vapor for 8 hours at a time, providing some helpful relief for her stuffy nose. It reminds me of the plug in air fresheners that are very popular, only in a menthol scent! I love that I don't have to plug it in, freeing me to place it anywhere in her room or around the house.

1. They helped keep Sweetpea's socks from falling off when she rubbed her feet together - I never did find a pair of socks that would stay put, but pulling her baby legs over the tops of them did the trick every time.

ELF Makeup coupon code

I posted last Friday about what's in my makeup bag, and much of what resides there is ELF makeup, short for Eyes Lips Face. Here is a little more background information, in case your interested. At the bottom of the post, I've included my picks and a coupon code!

ELF products have been featured in Parenting, Fitness, Everyday with Rachel Ray, and Self, just to name a few. They were also featured on the show "How to Look Good Naked" the last time I watched. (which was some time ago, back when I was up most nights feeding the newborn!)

The products are not tested on animals and there are several products that support charities. Their nailpolish is free of toluene, formaldehyde, and DBP (dibutyl phthalate).

This was enough, paired with the *can't go wrong for $1* price to get me to try a slew of products about 2 years ago. I signed up for email alerts and generally buy when there is a good coupon code out there. I have been known to go in with several friends since most coupon codes require a $25 purchase, and I'll be honest, I just don't want that much makeup!

My picks:

Brightening Eye Color - I love these. Probably a tie for my favorite product. These come in a great variety of palletes and are long lasting. They don't tend to form a line in the crease of my eyelid, which is a pet peave of mine!

Theraputic Conditioning Balm - I was a tried and true chapstick girl until I discovered these. My favorite is the orange, I love the feel and the balm stays on well and smells delicious!

Plumping Lip Glaze - I haven't worn much of this since Sweetpea was born, but I love the feel of it on my lips. It lasts well through the day and helps keep me from licking my lips, a bad habit of mine!

Nailpolish - I really like these polishes. They last well and I appreciate that they are free of some of the more nasty chemicals you can find in other nailpolishes.

Brushes and Tools - I love the blending wedges, brushes, eyelash curler, and tweezers.

Next time I purchase from ELF, I'm going to try the new bath and body line. If you've tried it, please let us know how you like it!

Things I'm not a fan of: I am not a fan of the foundation, mascara, or concealer. On the upside, I wasn't the least bit upset to discard them for the price!
